Hood to Coast 2015 Team

Mike Roberts
Team Captain and Runner #4
Portola Valley, CA; Age 78
Mike's running career began in the 70's, but he didn't race until the 80's. Since then, marathons in Boston, Athens, Berlin and elsewhere have marked an exciting, if belated, running resume. In recent years, he has focused on the Half, with age group wins in Eugene, Death Valley, and Tahoe, among others.
Steve Corbato
Runner #1
Salt Lake City, UT; age 54
While continuing to run intermittently after a mostly forgettable prep distance career in the 70's, Steve Corbató began to log mileage consistently again four years ago. He runs primarily today to wage a Quixotesque battle against genetics and age and to find life purpose through tracking spreadsheets and MapMyRun. Steve typically runs four halves each year. HTC15 is Steve's first long-distance relay event.
Eric Meckel
Runner #2
Sunnyvale, CA; Age 29
Eric started running after he saw how much Samara enjoyed it! He ran his first half marathon in 2011 and his first full marathon in 2014. Besides running, Eric lifts weights and enjoys cooking. Eric loves the outdoors and is looking forward to the Hood to Coast adventure!
Samara Meckel
Runner #3
Sunnyvale, CA; Age 28
Samara started running for fun in 2011 when she signed up for a marathon training group. That year she completed three half marathons and one full marathon, and has been hooked ever since. Samara also practices Bikram yoga, and is really excited to have the opportunity to participate in Hood to Coast with an amazing team!
Greg Wood
Runner #5
Arlington, VA; Age 49
Greg is not really a runner. However, he enjoys hanging out with Team Ladera teammates so much he took up running to spend more time with them. Greg also enjoys seeing new places and eating good food, and running lets him do more of that without having to buy new clothes. When not running, Greg can usually be found spending time with his family or riding his bike.
Lars Nilsson
Runner #6
Oakland, CA; Age 50
Lars' first running memories go back to the early days of TL - jaunts along Alpine Road and Sunday runs to "the Dish". Since then, his running has been sporadic, but has included 10K's, half marathons and two marathons, including the California International Marathon at age 50, which bested his 30 year old time by 20 minutes!
Kelly Kline
Runner #7
San Jose, CA; Age 46
Kelly is a third generation Northern Californian, chronic marathoner, trail runner, book reader, scrabble player, and adventure lover. She lives in Downtown San Jose with her husband Chris, and 11-year-old daughter Helen. She got the running bug 25 years ago (gulp) as a college student. She enjoys any distance, as long as there's good food and good company. She did her first 50k in 2014. She belongs to the Tattersols Women's running team based in Palo Alto along with Chandra, and dozens more inspiring female athletes. She loves relay running (6 times in the Golden Gate Relay!) and is very excited for HTC15
Ted Dorenkamp III
Runner #8
Minneapolis, MN; Age 45
Ted has been running, biking and swimming for fitness for 20 years, but was challenged to his first half-marathon in 2012, first triathlon and marathon in 2013, and completed five races in 2014. He is looking forward to running his first relay with this great group!
Mark Johnson
Runner #9
Morrisville, NC; Age 55
Neil Kliebenstein
Runner #10
San Jose, CA; Age 48
Chandra Ramamoorthy
Runner #11
Mountain View, CA; Age 60
Chandra is an avid backpacker and hiker from Seattle who moved to the Bay Area 14 years ago. Having run 2 marathons in the early 90's, she restarted running as the mountains in Tahoe were not easy to get to from Stanford. Tattersols, a women's running group on Stanford campus, made her "regular." She is a friend of Steve Corbato's from his skiing days and and met the Roberts this past spring during the Big Sur relay and was inducted into "Team Ladera." HTC will be her first overnight run. Chandra is also running Portland and NYC Marathons later this fall!
Sue Rohan
Runner #12
Chevy Chase, MD; Age 62
Sue began running late in life and ran her first half marathon in 2007. She graduated to full marathons in 2013, completing four since then. Sue was shocked to cut 35 minutes off her last marathon to place 20th in her age group. When not running, Sue is biking, hiking, cross-training, or writing Medicare regulations. Sue and Mark have hiked on Mt. Hood and can’t understand how all the vans will pull off the exchanges during the race! Mostly she wonders where the women will pee.
Jennifer Roberts
Driver, Logistics Assistant and webmaster
Santa Clara, CA; Age 54
Jennifer's a runner, but opted to be a driver and support person for this TL event! She also practices Bikram yoga, makes websites, and goes on "interesting" road trips with her dad, Mike.
Mark Luker
Driver
Chevy Chase, MD
Mark began running in grad school at Berkeley in 1972 in the Bay to Breakers. He has run with the same friends ever since. He was a founding member of the North Shore Striders and ran Grandma’s marathon when it was so small that you couldn’t see a runner in front of you to know which way to go. He and his running buddy ran outside every day In Duluth, MN for years, even throughout the blizzards of winter. He has won his age group at the Duluth half marathon without even attending. At his last marathon he had heat exhaustion and looked so dreadful running sideways that strangers put ice cubes in his hat and his wife, Sue carried him over the finish line. His most recent medal was at the Marietta 5K on Valentine’s Day in 2015, which he did run.
