2016 – Hood to Coast

HTC finish

Team Ladera HTC 2016 Finish!

Race report from team captain, Steve Corbato…
Congrats on an incredible relay and most of all, the great team camaraderie! With Chandra and the rest of the team crossing the finish in Seaside at 7:39 p.m. last evening, we completed the 199 mile course in 30:09:15 (or roughly 9:05 average mile pace).

According to the HTC web page, Team Ladera placed #68 (of 286) in the Mixed Open team division and #359 overall (the overall registration limit was 1,050 teams).

I’ll remember a lot of things about this race…

o the inverted temperature gradient (80 degrees F at Timberline Friday afternoon and 55 F at sea level on the coast last evening)

o Nancy and Peter joining as replacements at the last minute and contributing as much as they did

o Amy and Chandra running all three legs through nagging injuries

o Van #1 enduring extreme heat on the first leg down Mount Hood and into Sandy

o Chandra running the damp, cool final leg in a white trash bag

o strong newcomers like Alyssa, Norm, Philippe, and Scott,
o Mark and Mike supporting us so well as our designated drivers

o Kristine (taking two shifts!) and Alea serving as volunteers

o the presence of three prior relay captains to help me – Kelly (this year’s co-captain), Mike, and Nancy.

Several of us were concerned in advance about the relatively late start time and the real potential for not being able to make the finish before course closure last night, but we shattered at least one ‘algorithmically derived’ prediction by 69 minutes.

Way to go Team Ladera!
